Dominic, Benjamin and Laura just completed work and submitted the final report on a IRAP sponsored project with McCharles Consulting Ltd from Cape Breton, NS. The project had a large component on heat pumps working in cold climate.

Chang's first paper titled "Experimental Study of the Phase Change Behavior of Lauric Acid inside a Horizontal Cylindrical Latent Heat Energy Storage System" is now available online in the International Journal of Thermal Sciences.

Alain, research scientist at NSCC - Waterfront Campus and an associate to LAMTE, is participating and presenting our collaborative paper at the International Conference on Clean Energy (ICCE) 2014 in Istanbul (Turkey). The conference paper is titled "Real-Time Testing of Phase Change Materials for Solar Thermal Energy Storage".
Dominic was an invited researcher at the Université de Nice Sophia Antipolis
July 7-16, 2014

Dominic spent two week in Nice working in collaboration with Dr. Pascal Henry Biwole, a LAMTE associate, at l'Université de Nice Sophia Antipolis. They were performing simulations on COMSOL Multiphysics related to temperature control of PV panel using PCM as well as preparing manuscript for paper submission to the International Journal of Thermal Sciences.

Dominic is presenting some preliminary research results from Nicholas Osbourne's work as a MASc student, in collaboration with Dr. Irene Penesis from AMC, at the 2nd Asian Wave and Tidal Energy Conference in Tokyo; the paper title is "Three Dimensional Simulations of a Horizontal Axis Tidal Turbine - Comparison with Experimental Results".

Dominic is presenting two research papers at the 15th International Heat Transfer Conference in Kyoto; from the work of Louis titled "Two-Region Fin Model Adjacent Temperature Profile Interactions" and from a research collaboration with Dr. Biwole from Nice: "Solar PV Passive Temperature Control using Phase Change Materials".
An ENGAGE project with Internat Energy Solution is now completed

Florent and Dominic, along with Dr. White and postdoctoral fellow Dr. Kahwaji, are meeting with Livio Nichilo of Internat Energy Solution to presnet the results of the 6 month project looking at incorporating PCM in office space of historical buildings in Toronto to mitigage the large temperature flutuations observed in them.

Jonas, Trevor and Dominic just completed work and submitted the final report on an ENGAGE project with PoleCo Ltd. The project dealt with thermal studies and modeling of lead-acid batteries for off-grid applications.

Completion of an ENGAGE Project with Ocean Sonics

Aidan, Sean and Dominic just completed work and submitted the final report on an ENGAGE project with OceanSonics. The project was on turbulent induced noise around an hydrophone using small-scale LES CFD.
A NSERC Engage grant awarded for Tidal research with Open Hydro Canada
December 3, 2014

Dominic was awarded a $25,000 Engage grant for a CFD study of the flow over and around Open Hydro's subsea structure. Nick will get this project going in January using one of the newer 16 core/128 GB of RAM computer at the LAMTE.
Innovacorp funding awarded to a LAMTE Invention
November 27, 2014

Louis, Dominic and Mary Anne where successful in securing $15,000 in Early Stage Commercialization Funding from Innovacorp from Louis' invention in thermal storage. A market study will soon be undertaken!
A second paper in collaboration with the RESL is now published

Sebastian's paper titled "Regenerative Air Energy Storage for Remote Wind-Diesel Micro-grid Communities" is now available online in Applied Energy.
